Cigar Aficionado once quoted Matt Booth describing the original Johnny Tobacconaut concept as an intergalactic tobacco seed on a mission across the cosmos. The Maduro line takes that mission and points it somewhere darker. The Toro is the format most people will reach for first, and there is a reason for that. At 6×52, it sits in the sweet spot between the dense, slow-burning Gordo and the quicker Robusto, giving the Nicaraguan Maduro wrapper enough surface area to express itself fully without demanding the better part of two hours from you. Underneath that wrapper, Nicaraguan binder and filler build a full-bodied foundation that AJ Fernandez’s factory in Estelí knows how to construct better than almost anyone.
Earth and espresso lead, dark cocoa rounds out the middle, and the strength builds gradually rather than overwhelming you from the jump. Booth has always treated the Tobacconaut line as a character with a story, and the Maduro Toro is that character all grown up. Same sense of humor in the branding, considerably more weight in the smoke. An hour of full-bodied Nicaraguan puro that earns its place in regular rotation.

For those looking for a great stick, this new Johnny Tobacconaut Maduro from Room 101 is darn tasty. This burns really well, too. It’s the darker, more complex brother of the original JT. The original Johnny Tobacconaut is a creamy, silky Connecticut shade with a little kick. So that one makes for a great morning cigar.
This maduro shares a similar profile in some instances as it smokes, but quite a bit heavier. There is also a little bit of char attached to its flavor. I got dark, and even milky chocolate notes, plus a fair bit of cinnamon too. There is also an underlying caramel flavor to this stick, which caught me off guard. Those flavors lasted from the second on through the final third.
The retrohale was peppery STRONG in the first few puffs. That lingered for a bit, but midway through had calmed down immensely. Thankfully.. Though, like I said this is a heavier smoke from Room 101, there’s no doubt about it. This astronaut, sorry I mean tobacconaut- certainly has a bit of punch to it.
The halfway point to the finish is where this thing shines. The first part is nice, but man does it take off like a rocket ship after that start up!
If you like a cocktail, this JT Maduro would go well with a splash of your favorite bourbon, or maybe a darker tequila. Heck, most cigars usually do. I however enjoyed the few I had with a root beer. It would also go well with coffee.
I’ve smoked both the Toro and Gordo, and actually prefer the size of the Gordo. That threw me for a loop as I usually don’t enjoy the fatter sizes. It allowed for more smoke, albeit a tad more flavor for my palate.
It’s fun to try a new release that is worth talking about. It will make a great evening cigar after starting your morning with the original.
Get this cigar; it’s not overhyped!

Was waiting for this Cigar for a long time. I wasn’t disappointed when it came out. I heard people say bad things about it but apparently they have a pallet of a five-year-old child because these things are great. at the very least you should order a couple sticks if you don’t believe me. There was a point where you could taste leather chocolate and cream all at the same time as if it was mixed in a blender. Not a heavy dark leather. Just get some.

Bold complex flavor bomb. Just the way I like it. Although I wish there would be more JT10’s out there, this will definitely scratch the itch for them. Get these when you can, while you can. Worth the hype.

Just a great stick. One of the best so far this year. It’s hard to find. Thanks

For me this cigar was a chocolate bomb with coffeee. Very enjoyable and kept my interest from start to finish with no drop off in flavor. The flavors were easy to pick out by being profound and tasty. The construction was absolutely solid with a decent burn line that had some waviness to it. The draw was also perfect. Overall, I would highly recommend this cigar and the price point is excellent. Box worthy in my opinion
