From the website of Padron Cigars, “The award winning 1926 serie premiered in 2002 to commemorate Jose O Padron’s 75th birthday. Continuing our tradition, this series is offered in a box-pressed format offering refined tobacco aged five to ten years, then blended to create an exceptionally smooth, complex, balanced full-bodied flavor. For protection, a double band with an individually numbered guarantee number is applied to every label to safeguard against counterfeiting.”

The No. 9 Maduro is the sweet spot of the Padrón 1926 Serie for dark wrapper lovers. At 5.25×56, the wide ring gauge and robusto gordo format put the deeply fermented sun-grown Nicaraguan Maduro wrapper front and center from the very first draw, and what it delivers on top of five to ten years of family-aged Nicaraguan filler tobacco is something that has made this one of the most consistently sought-after sizes in the entire lineup.
Dense, rich, and layered from start to finish. Dark chocolate and espresso hit first, then leather and earth build in the middle third as the filler tobaccos assert themselves, and the finish arrives long and naturally sweet with a cocoa and molasses character that only a properly fermented Maduro from Nicaragua can produce. The wide 56-ring gauge keeps the smoke cool and controlled the entire way, the full-body strength of the 1926 Serie showing up with authority without ever crossing into harshness. Double-banded, individually numbered, grown and blended entirely by the Padrón family in Nicaragua. The most 90+ rated cigar line in the world. The No. 9 Maduro is what it looks like at its most indulgent.

I love the 1926, the flavors for these and the 1964 aren’t the most complex; however, the best way I can describe it is being …. smooth and pleasant. Burn was PERFECT the entire cigar, structurally awesome. Definitely will keep these stocked in the humidor. I prefer the 1964, but when I need that extra kick…. 1926 does it.

The maduro is a little sweeter to me, compared to the natural. Lots of smoke too!

Sometimes the stars just align when you smoke a cigar. Came out to my back patio with nothing but beautiful blue sky, birds chirping, a light gentle breeze, and the 1926 No. 9 Maduro. The cigar started strong right out the gate with some nice spice and burn on the nose. Flavors of roasted coffee, chocolate, and almost a salty or buttery tone of graham cracker. That butteriness and coffee has been the main note for me that opens up and really hits its stride in the second third. The spice completely toned down as well on the retro which lead to me hittin’ the bridge with every puff from here forward.
Simply delicious smoke. I smoke a lot of Padron, but I’ve never had the 1926 in this vitola. However, this has been worth the wait and stands up to every 40-year and 80-year I’ve ever smoked. Maybe I just got a good one this time, and sometimes that does happen. However, I’m looking forward to smoking many more of these to chase this perfect vibe again. It was one of those experiences where you find yourself just looking at the cigar and wanting to keep the band. Perfect draw. Perfect burn. All the way down to the nub.
