Summary

El Mago calls it Mรญstico โ€” "mystical" โ€” because that's exactly what the relationship between Gonzalo and Maria Torre was. The magic between them inspired this cigar, and Nicholas Fusco made sure it looked the part. The Mรญstico is unlike anything else in the El Mago lineup: a box-pressed 5x50 Robusto dressed in a three-year-aged Cameroon wrapper, capped at both the head and foot with a contrasting light-tan Connecticut Shade leaf โ€” giving it the unmistakable two-tone look of an actual magic wand. Under that striking exterior, an Ecuadorian binder holds together a multi-region blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican Republic fillers for a medium-bodied smoke that hits with spicy-sweet complexity from the first draw. Expect red pepper, toasted cedar, nutmeg, cinnamon, and a lingering brown sugar sweetness that evolves through three distinct acts. A four-country, six-region blend in a 5x50 box-press โ€” boutique craftsmanship with serious showmanship to match.

I thought this was a great blend. Love the box press. Nice medium body Cameroon with earthy undertones and a sweet creamy finish. Beautiful burn, great draw, and a really pretty ash to boot!

Donโ€™t often leave reviews but this blend wasnโ€™t good at all and had no redeeming traits. Figured Id let others know before wasting your money on this. I pick up on 1 note the entire time burning paper

I bought a box of these a few weeks ago. I find Cameroon sticks to be either really good, or really bad. It is a hit and miss blend for sure. At least for my flavor buds. Though, when the taste is there, the blend can be hard to beat. Having said that, these cigars from El Mago have oddly ended up somewhere in the middle for me. I donโ€™t pick up on much sweetness, strangely not until the final third. Which is where this cigar really hits for my liking. The first two thirds are one note earthiness, with a slight bitterness on the tongue. I like this brand, love the story behind it, and have since ordered the Art Deco blend. Iโ€™m hoping that maybe a little more time in the humidor will bring this Mistico a bit more life.
