Drew Estate’s fan favorite Undercrown line has officially turned 10 years old! And of course, everyone is celebrating with the new Undercrown 10, which is blended with “ultra-premium aged tobaccos that include a higher priming of Mexican San Andres Dark for the wrapper, the very finest Broadleaf binder that the Connecticut River Valley can produce, and a tripa blend of select and rare Nicaraguan tobaccos.” (from Drew Estate). If you’re a Drew Estate fan, this is the ‘don’t miss it’ blend of the year!

Tonight, I smoked the Drew Estate Undercrown 10, and here’s the report card. This cigar is all fancy looking fit for royalty. Heavy and solid, wearing a very dark Maduro leather jacket strait out of Mexico, adorned in fine jewelry, with a golden scarf and ankle bracelet fit for a king. After a cut and a light, we kick this smoke down off with some black pepper, leather and earthiness. Perfect draw and great smoke out put. Into the first third the pepper faded quickly and brought in some bakers chocolate with a slight spiciness. This cigar went strait into smooth and sorta creamy. Long finish. Toothy. Slightly oily smoke. Very smooth retrohale, no pepper, no harshness. You can literally tell it’s aged tobacco, well blended, well balanced. It’s bringing in some roasted nuttiness with a tiny bit of sweetness on that chocolate that was a little more cocoa at first. Rounding into second base a brown sugar has come into play. A little coffee. The burn line is perfectly even. The ash held on at two and half inches. Smoking like a coal train. Medium body, medium low strength. The construction is amazing. There’s a nice tongue tingling effect. There’s a very nice, mild sweetened cheeky tobacco flavor. Coming into third base it’s pretty consistent. I got a small hint of molasses in a couple of draws that kinda disappeared fast. The retrohale is very smooth, probably one of the smoothest cigars I’ve had this year. The nicotine in slowly creeping up a notch. The flavors I got in this was a bit on the quiet side, I’m chalking it up to being well aged, there’re good, but somewhat muted, nothing really jumping out to try and steal your attention, although it is more full body at this point. The ash only fell off three times throughout my entire 90 minutes of smoke time. I can see justifying this being 91-92 points. I actually already order another one because it’s looks so good in my humidor.

Great stick with notes of Raisin, coco, leather, and pepper. Competes with the Liga Privada 9 for less $. Perfect draw and construction. Thick heavy smoke. I try and keep a couple of these on deck.

I can’t say enough good things about Drew Estate’s cigars. I tried the robusto and it left me wanting for more. In my experience, larger cigar sizes can lack consistency of the smaller sizes flavor profile. In this respect the Undercrown robusto to toro are consistent with each other and gave me more out the experience time wise. I am keeping a five pack on the side here on out.
