Summary

Eight years is a long time to wait for a new size, and Pete Johnson did not rush it. The El Triunfador Original launched with a 7 1/2 x 38 Lancero, added a 5 x 50 Robusto in 2018, and then Pete left the lineup alone until he had a size that genuinely earned its place. The Cazadores is that size. A 6 3/8 x 43 Lonsdale with the same triple cap and pigtail finish that defines every El Triunfador Original, built around the same Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper over Nicaraguan binder and filler that the García family at My Father Cigars has been rolling since the line began. The Lonsdale ring gauge is the reason. At 43, the Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper makes up more of what your palate encounters with every draw than in the wider Robusto, pushing the molasses, leather, dark chocolate, and cream that define the El Triunfador Original profile forward with a clarity and focus the larger vitola delivers differently. Medium in body despite a profile that reviews consistently describe as rich and full in flavor, a distinction Pete has always made deliberately with this line. The blend earned 92 points. The Cazadores is the format it was always supposed to smoke in. Twenty-five to a box, shipping this summer.
