The Year of the Rat was born out of the same restless creative energy that produced the Dirty Rat, which is to say it was born in the Liga Privada Unico program at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate where Jonathan Drew and his team blend cigars until something is too good to not release. The Unico series exists because Drew Estate kept making exceptional one-off blends that worked specifically in a particular size and refused to let them disappear into the vault.
The Year of the Rat is one of those blends in its purest form: a 5.5×46 Corona Gorda with a fantail cap that takes real skill to roll, built around a stalk cut and cured USA Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper so dark and oily it practically demands your attention before you light it. Brazilian Mata Fina binder underneath, Honduran and Nicaraguan fillers providing the muscle. Each stick arrives individually wrapped in gold foil and housed in an embossed blue 10-count box that is as distinctive on the shelf as the cigar is in the hand. The profile delivers black pepper, earth, rich spice, and a natural tobacco sweetness that builds through a full smoke. Annual spring release, Drew Diplomat retailers only. The 2026 version is available now and it will not be here long.
