Serie R Esteli consists of large ring, full-flavored Nicaraguan puros blended with ligeros and visos from multiple farms throughout the country, including those from Jalapa. Serie R Esteli is handcrafted in Nicaragua and exhibits the complexity of optimally-aged Nicaraguan tobacco, through its thick, oily wrapper. (La Gloria Cubana’s website)

This is an Excellent Maduro. Lots of flavor including notes of Spice, Earth, Coffee and Chocolate.
1/3 way in the aged, smooth tobacco mellows this full flavor stick to A Maduro perfection.
A definite stocker to have on cold nights around the fire.

Tonight I’m capping off my day with one last smoke down and I’m doing it with the La Gloria Cubana Serie R from Esteli. This thing kicked off with some pepper on the retro hale, and some vanilla from the wrapper, but any other flavors were hard to come by. Into the first third, after about a half inch it began to come to life with a tiny bit of chocolate. I expected robust flavors after seeing Tim’s review on this cigar, but I find myself disagreeing with it. It has a short finish, that ends with light coffee. Almost to the second third the flavor profile started popping but so did tunnels and canoeing and a crooked burn line along with a torn wrapper. I’m fixing it more than smoking it, so I’m done with it and this review. My score came out to a 71.

I’ve picked up another La Gloria Cubana Serie R Esteli from my B&M today to give it another try because the last one had construction issues. The flavor profile is way better and the final third was light slightly sweet and very good. I’m scoring this an 89 on the second go around.

Cigar: La Gloria Cubana Serie R Esteli Maduro No.52
Price: $8.24
Size: 6 x 52
Appearance/Color: Coffee bean colored with a few visible veins and seams.
Smoking Time: 1-1/2 hrs
Wrapper: Connecticut Broadleaf
Binder: Nicaraguan
Filler: Nicaraguan
On the Nose: Barnyard,hay.
Cold Draw/Test: Cocoa, natural tobacco sweetness and slight spice. Draw is loose with a little resistance.
First Light Up: Slight spice, cocoa, red pepper on the retrohale.
1/3: Cocoa, natural tobacco and pepper on the retrohale but dialed back on the tongue. The flavor and body are medium and the draw is good as well as the burn with a nice salt & pepper colored ash.
2/3: Natural tobacco is at the forefront. Cocoa is still present and pepper is making its way back as a main note. The flavor and body are medium/full and the draw is good as well as the burn with a nice salt & pepper colored ash.
3/3: Pepper and natural tobacco are the main notes now with earth sitting in the background. The flavor and body are still medium/full and again the draw is good as well as the burn with a nice salt & pepper ash.
Notes:
I enjoyed this cigar more than the La Gloria Cubana Esteli. This Maduro series seems much smoother and a flavor profile I am attracted to more. I also look forward to trying the La Gloria Cubana Black. Both bands came off with ease with no damage to the wrapper. Also the cigar needed no touch up’s at all.
