Thirty years is a long time for any cigar brand to stay relevant. The Metropolitan did it without a marketing department, without a flashy rebrand, and without changing the fundamental character of the blends that made it worth smoking in the first place. It started with the Quesada family in the Dominican Republic in the mid-1990s under the Nat Sherman name, built a loyal following across three decades, survived a corporate shutdown, and came back under Ferio Tego without missing a beat.

The 30 Years release is Michael Herklots and the Quesada family’s way of marking that run properly. A new blend, not a reissue of an existing line, built around an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper over Dominican binder and a filler that pulls from both the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua to create something that honors the Metropolitan tradition while pushing it into new territory. Halfwheel pulled roasted peanuts, cedar, toasted bread, and a honey sweetness on the retrohale from the three samples they reviewed. Medium in body, beautifully balanced, and limited to just 2,500 boxes of 10. This is the cigar for the person who has been smoking Metropolitan since the Nat Sherman days and wants to mark the occasion properly.
