Five years running, Knuckle Sandwich has done the same thing every year at PCA: shown up with a completely different Chef Special blend and let Guy Fieri put his own spin on what “special” actually means. The 2026 edition breaks from the pack in its own way. Where past Chef Specials leaned into Brazilian Mata Fina and Ecuadorian Habano Rosado wrappers, this year Hector Alfonso Sr. and Erik Espinosa reached for something rarely seen in this category: Mexican Claro. Most Mexican wrapper leaf people know is the dark, oily San Andrés Negro that defines half the maduros on the market.

Claro is the opposite end of that spectrum entirely, a lighter, brighter expression of Mexican-grown tobacco that almost nobody is using right now. Paired with Nicaraguan binder and filler and pressed into a distinctive oval shape at the San Lotano factory in Ocotal, this 6×54 delivers a profile with more nuance and less brute force than the rest of the Knuckle Sandwich family. Just 4,000 boxes of 10 in this initial run. Fieri called this year’s lineup personality without pretending to be something it’s not. The Chef Special has never been one to repeat itself, and this one proves it again.
