Summary
Byron traces its roots to the 1850s, named after the English poet George Gordon Byron and founded by José and Eusebio Alfonso in Cuba shortly after his death. Nelson Alfonso, a sixth-generation descendant of the founders, carries that legacy forward today through Selected Tobacco S.A. in Costa Rica, and the Byron 175 Tribute Set is his most personal statement yet on what the brand means and where it stands. Four cigars, four century markers, one elegant display case. Every cigar is packaged in a cosmetic-grade aluminum tube and has spent a minimum of four years in Selected Tobacco's proprietary post-roll aging process, where carefully controlled humidity cycles and multiple cedar varietals slowly refine each blend into its intended character. The 1850 No. 3 anchors the collection in the brand's founding era in a 6x52. The 19th Century Grand Poemas steps up to a 6x56 and represents the brand's Cuban golden age.
The 20th Century Habaneros arrives in a 6x54 as a bridge between old and new. The 21st Century Elegantes, at 6⅛x55, is where Alfonso's Costa Rican operation brings the story into the present. All four are rolled in Costa Rica with Ecuadorian wrappers over Dominican, Peruvian, and Nicaraguan tobaccos. Production is strictly limited with no additional runs planned once the initial allocation is gone. $205 for a piece of cigar history that spans 175 years. This one belongs in the collection.
