Finally got my hands on the long anticipated Cactus Wren. WOW!! I was not disappointed. Jonas and Tim hit an absolute home run. This stick has the power and strength, but also has that subtle sweetness that makes it so balanced. As with the rest of Blackbird’s cigars, it has good construction and burn. The flavors were consistent and balanced throughout the entire stick. These were well worth the wait!!

Once Again Tim and the staff sent this one into the bleachers! If you are wondering ( Which you’d be crazy if you are) if Tim’s picks are spot on, Just Buy them period, as I now call him A.C.E. (Arizona’s Cigar Enabler). Anyway onto the Smoke. This one holds a special one for me as I am an Arizonan, and happen to have a few of these Loud, pesky, Arrogant Birds in my backyard. They apologize for nothing, and don’t take any crap.
This Cigar could not be named more appropriate!.
Simple in wrapping, Delicious even on the cold draw, this stick ROCKS. With the profile of this cigar seeming to be a monster, I was surprised how smooth this cigar is from start to finish. With Mexican San Andres wrapper, Cuban seed Dominican binder, and a blend of Corojo, Criollo 98, and Olor fillers.
1st third – A perfect morning Cigar. With a nice cup of coffee this cigar explode with a smooth coffee note with to me seems a tiny bit of sweetness, almost a tad of mint. especially on the retrohale. easy to light, not torpedoing, and just smooth with a good ash
2nd Third : A bit more earthiness and a bit stronger on the Retro with some pepper and a baking bread vibe, but even smoother than the 1st third.
Final Third – The very light sweetness prevails a bit, but not sweet, if that makes sense. a bit more spicy now and a bit bolder, but again IMHO one of the smoothest cigars I have had recently. Now along with all the other tasting notes a buttery oily presence is introduced.
Throughout the smoke it retains a very toothy, chewy characteristic, and leaves a beautiful oiliness on the palate, allowing the flavors to linger and build. All the while keeping a tremendous draw and a not to “stingy” retrohale in the nostrils.
Too bad this is a limited edition short run ( or maybe a great thing ). As this is literally a perfect cigar IMHO.
You may even have our state bird join you and start doing a little dance while you smoke this stick.

Most certainly Box Worthy.

I purchased the cactus Wren a week ago. Left at rest. Tried one today. Was not super impressed by it. Had a bad burn. Had to keep touching up. Only flavors I got from it was some spice. Other than that it just had a small leather note to it. Might be fine for others but I doubt if I would purchase any more.

Big mistake was only buying a fiver. Great blend spicey and sweet transitioning to savory. Tim and Jonas nailed this one. Can’t wait to load up on more when/if they get a restock. A must try.

Thank you so much for the review SmokeyJ! There will be more Cactus Wren in November! You can join me in looking forward to them. Glad you like the blend – Tim

Wow! As is pretty usual at this point, Tim is spot on with this stick! Takes just a minute to get going, but then WOW! Explosive smooth flavor! Luscious, incredibly smooth, creamy, cocoa, and light coffee. Perfect strength for me. Tim has never steered me wrong, we must have the same taste in cigars because this one isn’t hype, I love this cigar!

This is my 3rd Cactus Wren. Poor construction, bad burn, and well flavor was no where near what has been hyped. Even if some one would give me one I would pass. I so wanted to love this cigar that I tried it 3 times all with the same results.

The aroma coming from this cigar on light up was fantastic, had me very excited. Overall flavor was delicious. Gets a 2 star because I lost count of how many times I had to relight or touch up.
Construction was poor, first there was literally crooked.
Burn was uneven
Wouldn’t stay lit for the life of me
If they could clean up these issues it would be an amazing stick

I’m glad that I was able to snag a 5 pack of these. I missed out on the first release and when I saw them back in stock I grabbed a few. I have been a fan of Blackbird and this one hits home as I am in AZ. This does not disappoint. Some of mentioned that the burn isn’t great and I agree but I enjoy the mouth-feel and the flavor. It is certainly one that I will try and keep stocked in the humidor.
