From Americanvikingcigars.com, “Rico Barato is not a real person. We made him up. His name means Rico – ‘rich’ Barato – ‘cheap’. These are our econonmy cigar brand, and they have a very special place in our hearts. There was a long time when co-owner Tim Swanson could only afford sticks like these. Each stick is a mix of long filler with some short filler sprinkled in, making this a Cuban Sandwich. The drawback with these affordable cigars is that they burn a little faster, and have a pretty simple flavor profile. But we feel that these Connecticut sticks offer incredible consistency, construction, and flavor… especially for their shelf price.”

My everyday cigar. Nothing fancy and nothing boring. Light cream taste with notes of hay, cedar and a hint of spicy vanilla. I enjoy it with my cup of morning coffee, shoveling the driveway or with a good book before bed. Great cigar that any Connecticut lover will enjoy!!

Overall: Outstanding for an inexpensive cigar.
Review: I’ve smoked cigars a couple times a year for a couple decades, but didn’t know much about them and was lucky I managed to light the right end every time. Now, I am really starting to get into cigars. I’m taking the time to learn everything I can and have started at the low end and working my way up as my palette develops. That’s how I landed on this Rico Barato.
This was a really, really good cigar for the cost. The flavor wasn’t overwhelming one way or the other, but consistent the whole time, and I agree with the other reviewer about notes of cedar, and a bit into the first third caught some cinnamon notes that remained to the last puff. It wasn’t bitter or have a poor taste at any point. What impressed me the most was how consistently this burned throughout the entire stick. I was *shocked* by the quality of such an inexpensive cigar.
These are from American Viking, which Tim is a part owner of, so I wasn’t sure if they’d be good, or if they were just here because he has a stake in the brand. I was VERY pleasantly surprised at the quality. These are great for a casual smoke or sharing with your friends because you want them to stay the hell away from your good sticks 🙂 I’ll definitely be picking up some more, and you should, too.
FYI I kept this cigar at 69% humidity with a Boveda pack and at 71.5 degrees in my Tupperdore.

This cigar is a great daily smoke and a great cigar to share with friends and or family as well as someone who is thinking of getting into cigars. It burned incredibly and it would correct its self really nicely. My smoke time was about an hour. So really great cigar for a short ish time.
It does ash alittle easily and when you are least expecting it. but if you’re smoking outside no worries. There was alot of smoke compared to other i’ve smoked recently. That could be a good or bad thing. I liked it!
Highly Recommend!!

Good value cigar. You won’t find complexity, but the flavors are consistent with the classic Connecticut essentials: hay, light pepper, cedar with plentiful creamy smoke. I’m glad it was in my sampler pack.

The flavor is good, kind of a light, very very slight sweet and a bit of a grainy taste. The burn was good, had to do a little touch ups here and there and had some tunneling issues. However I was able to get a consistent burn and ash. This is a really good cigar, however with it being a Churchill I do recommend sharing with fellow Cigar Enthusiasts and taking breaks here and there. Definitely don’t smoke this on an empty stomach.

I wasn’t expecting much but found my self looking at it and saying it was dam good for a daily smoke no bad taste very consistent .

It has better flavor than some of the $10 cigars I’ve had before. That being said, it started to canoe on me starting near the end of the first third. Overall, I’d purchase again, and may actually end up buying a bundle here soon.
