El Mago Cigars is one of the more personal stories in the boutique cigar world. Founder Nicholas Fusco created the brand as a tribute to his grandparents, Maria and Gonzalo Torre, Cuban immigrants who owned the James Hotel in Miami’s iconic Art Deco District — and were tragically lost in the Surfside condominium collapse of 2021. The Triunfante, Spanish for “triumphant,” is named in honor of their strength and resilience.
This 6×52 Toro is the most approachable expression in the El Mago portfolio, dressed in a silky golden Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper over a Nicaraguan Corojo binder and all-Nicaraguan filler. It smokes mild-medium with a smooth, creamy profile that opens with buttered nuts, clean cedar, aromatic florals, and a subtle baking spice sweetness that builds quietly and finishes clean. Each cigar comes individually packaged in a tubo sleeve, making it as sharp-looking as it smokes. A boutique gem worth getting to know.
