If the Brûlée Blue Unicorn is the elegant side of Steve Saka’s obsession with building the world’s most expensive cigar, the Mi Querida Black Unicorn is the muscle. Same legendary 6.25×60 Diadema Deluxe vitola. Same individual wooden coffins nested inside a piano finish cabinet box. Same “whole hog crazy” construction philosophy that two of the best torcedores in Nicaragua spend enormous effort bringing to life. But the blend is a completely different animal. The Mi Querida Black traces its roots to a cigar Saka made to honor JR Cigar’s 50th anniversary and the palate of Ed McVey, the longtime JR buyer who loved full-body, dark Broadleaf smokes above everything else.

The wrapper is Grade A++ Connecticut Broadleaf No. 1 Darks — the deepest, oiliest, most tobacco-forward Broadleaf leaves that passed an obsessive selection process — rolled over a Cultivo Tonto San Andrés Negro binder and a three-country filler of Nicaraguan, Honduran, and Dominican tobaccos. The result is full-body all the way: chocolate, loam, espresso, dark spice, and a blast of black pepper in the final third that the Mi Querida Black is famous for. Saka himself said if he were a billionaire he’d smoke one of these every day. That says it all. Only 200 boxes made. Don’t overthink it.
