Romeo y Julieta was founded in Havana in 1875, and for 150 years it has been one of the most recognized names in the entire cigar world. Altadis USA built this anniversary blend the way you’d expect a 150-year milestone to be built: by calling in every favor and sourcing the best leaf from the best people on the planet. The Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper was aged and fermented by AJ Fernandez himself. The Mexican San Andrés binder came from the Turrent family, one of the most respected growing operations in Mexico.

The filler pulls Peruvian and Honduran tobaccos from the Plasencia family’s farms and Dominican leaf from José Mendez & Co., with an additional undisclosed aged component in the bunch that adds a layer of complexity nobody has quite been able to pin down. Five renowned tobacco families, five growing regions, all brought together at Tabacalera de García in La Romana and rolled into a 6×54 Balconet that burns for a full hour and delivers cedar, dark chocolate, coffee, leather, cinnamon, and spice on a body that stays rich and satisfying from start to finish. This is what 150 years of relationships in the tobacco world looks like in cigar form. Around $27 a stick and absolutely worth it.
